2014 Quilting Year in Review

I finished more than I thought in 2014 but of course not as much as I would like.

Here is a quick post in pictures. It will be nice to look back on down the road.

Final Finishes of 2014

Here are the last 2 quilted finishes I had for the year.

Downton Abbey - I worked on this for a year and it was the quilt from he!!. I couldn't get anything to do what it was supposed to do. I consider this a labor of love. It was made for my sister and she loved it.

It was so big I had nowhere to lay it out properly. One of the student from my Loyal Union, Kris, was a sweetheart and long arm quilted it for me.

Dad's Christmas quilt. I love flannel really I do as long as I don't have to sew with it or have it in my house. Every stray cat/dog hair finds it's way on here. I finished this with a couple days to spare. I just stitched in the ditch on the sashing rows. I used a wool batting. It is very fluffy which was what I wanted.

If only I could have a quilt done every day. That sure would be nice.

Yarn Report 1/2/2015

I know this is only the second day of the New Year but I was on a roll and actually have some outgoing yardage. I won't mention the yarn coming in that I ordered last year but of course won't arrive til later today I am sure. Oh well, I won't add it until next week so I will have pretty good numbers for at least 1 of the 52 weeks.

Here is a close up of the cowl I finished yesterday. I am calling it Mary's Cowl. It is a really nice pattern for those 200 yd skeins we all love to buy.  Pattern: Blue Roan Bell Cowl

On the Needles 1/2/2015

I'm back and it is the start of the new year. So lets see how long it lasts.

I have tons of stuff on the needles but I haven't taken pictures yet. So I will just show what I finished in the last couple of days.

Not the best picture but I don't seem to have enough light in the basement. I found a link through Facebook that was asking for 1000 hats by Jan 21 for Michigan babies so I thought what the heck. This is an acrylic yarn (which was requested) and of course it is red, also requested. I ended up knitting one and crocheting 3. I haven't crocheted in a long time and I really can't do it very often since it really hurts my hands, but these hats only took my maybe 15 minutes each. It was really not bad at all. Just pretend to watch TV with the hubster and I am good to go.

Then, I received a lovely Christmas present from Mary, who is a student in my Loyal Union Quilting Class. It was a lovely skein of Blue Ridge Yarns - Boysenberry and a pattern to go with it. The other students challenged my to have it done before our class in January. So of course I took on the challenge. I finished it yesterday. So it is my first finish of the New Year. Now if only I could get my other projects done as fast.

The pattern was very simple but I loved the way it came out. It is a very airy cowl and I am going to enjoy it very much.

Happy New Year.

Hope everyone had a Blessed and Happy New Year.

I am hoping to be back for good. I have decided that life will not be slowing down at all and more than likely will only be getting crazier for me. So I am just going to have to put on my big girl panties and get r done.

I am hoping to switch a lot of my stuff over to the laptop so that way I can just do my posts from upstairs instead of coming down to the dungeon.

I have lots of things planned for the upcoming year. I don't call them resolutions but more like vague goals. How's that for avoidance?

I will be very busy over the next couple of months. I have tons of fabric sitting around here waiting for me to make into kits for work. I have 2 new block of the months I start teaching this month one being a mystery. It is awesome. I am also taking 2 BOM this year as well, Pomegranate Lane which is a wool, and Mistletoe Lane which is an applique.

Here's hoping I have time to reach all my "goals" and still have plenty of time to not fall behind on my projects.

Feeling Blue and Green

I have been working on a sample for a class I am teaching next year. The goal is to get it done before our After Market Party. Which is a little thing at work where you can come and look at things we will be offering in the store next year and stuff they bought at Quilt Market.

It seemed to take forever but in reality it didn't.

I now have the borders on but didn't get a picture yet (all 3 are mitered too). Next on my agenda is quilting and binding it. Hope to have pictures soon.

I've Been Cleaning

A couple of months ago we rearranged my sewing room and I never really liked it. So this past weekend I was at it again. This time I took down my mid-arm frame, going to sell it, since I never use it anyway. I took everything out of my Koala table and cabinet and am going to sell that too. I just don't have enough room.

I cleaned out my spare bedroom, fabric closet and everywhere else in the basement I had set quilty things. I even had stuff in boxes still from when we moved and that was almost 2 years ago.

I listed some stuff on Craig's list and have a big pile for Goodwill. I am on a roll.

I bought a new sewing table at Salvation Army (it was even on sale) and I had my hubby make me an awesome table top for my mid arm.

A little bit of the before's in various areas. It really did look worse than this by the time I started cleaning.

The finished area. I still need to clean off the ironing area but have realized with out my Koala I don't really have table space. Towards the end I was putting things in non-designated areas just to get it out of the other room. Next thing on my agenda is some more storage units.

This closet now has a lot more fabric in it than it did in this picture. I must get busy sewing.

The almost empty room will have some my yarn stash from upstairs brought down. I just haven't felt like doing that yet either.

I am now off to sew for the first time in my almost clean room. I hope I can keep it that way.
