First Ever Socks
I was cleaning out a box and came across some knitting I had forgot about. Turns out I found my first every pair of socks that I had made. I must have had enough yarn left because I made a pair of baby ones too. These were done in my favorite lime green of course and worsted weight no less. I can see a few mistakes but honestly not bad for a newbie.
I've come along way since then but still have a long way to go. I also don't think I will ever make another pair of socks that long again either. What was I thinking.

Didn't work on my sock as much as I wanted but I still made progress. I am hoping to finish it up before the next Needles post. That way I will be a head with the Loopy Challenge.
The kiddos are out of school next week for Spring Break and I only have to work one day so hopefully between football practice, football scrimmages, track practice, track meets (mind you that is only one kiddo) and hubby being home for a couple of days I can get some major stuff accomplished. One can only hope.
I even faltered and bought some yarn. Gotta fix that. Too much coming in not enough going out.

Head on over to Judy's to see other progress.

I am knitting. I really am.
Remember the Honey Cowl?
I was going to make this my Spring Loopy challenge. Well, I didn't like it so much. I decided to make a pair of thicker socks. I actually finished the first sock the other night but waited to graft it until yesterday. I have to really concentrate so I wait until no one is at home and I talk really loudly while I am doing it. Hey, no one said I was normal.
I love how the little bit of pooling happened. I think it will be a nice pair of crazy socks. I still have to use the pattern that I originally was taught with. For some reason I still get lost and confused if I try something different. Go figure. I must say that I would really like to learn how to do the toe a little bit differently. I really don't like the boxy look but I guess that will come with time.
I now have 2 weeks give or take to get the next sock finished before the deadline. That will also help me with my little challenge of finishing one set of socks a quarter.
I think I will have enough yarn left to make my niece a funky little set as well. Will have to make them a little bit bigger though since she seems to grow like a weed.
For more knitting ideas head on over to Judy's.

As soon as I get the other one done my yarn stash will change too. I haven't been posting the last couple of weeks since nothing in and nothing out is the norm around here.

On the Needles - Jan 10,2014
I still have all of the same stuff on the needles. I have been knitting and knitting and knitting but don't seem like I am getting anywhere. I think that is because I keep casting on and for me that is a no-no. I just need to keep a few things going not a hundred.
I am almost half way done with my Racing Raindrops Loopy Ewe challenge scarf. Of course I have been saying that for almost a week. I will get to the half way point one of these days, hopefully this weekend.

Racing Raindrops - I only have 4 more repeats (24 rows) then I am half way done. I know the other half will go quicker since I will be decreasing. Or at least I can hope it will.
This is a the first of a pair of socks in the plain Jane style following the Yarn Harlot's guide.. I am using Springtime from Knit Picks. First time I have used such small needles, and they are my new Karbonz, so it seems to take forever to do the ribbing. These will become my church socks. The other one I cast on for this purpose are going to be short socks so they will be my stay at home and knit socks. Let's see how long they take me to finish.

No Pooling For Me
Judy over at Patchwork Times has a pooling challenge for socks going on. I'm a slow knitter but I love socks so I thought what the heck..I have 2 months until the dead line. Yeah right....I can't get a sock to pool for the life of me.
I have attempted 4 different yarns (I think), and still no such luck and the sad thing is I refuse to tink the ones I have already started. So, in the last week I have cast on at least 4 socks..I can say I did take the first one apart but that is it. I have one more pair of needles and a couple more sock yarns I might try...if not I will give up and at least try and have one of these sets of socks done before the challenge is over. Good news is I will get a set of socks done right....
I did cast all of these on with 2.5mm needles and 64 stitches...it is a plain vanilla sock and I am just not that good with going out of the box yet. I kept using the same size needles because for some reason I have a ton of them.. I do have a couple more choices I may try since I do have a few days until March is over...hmmm what to do...
I can say that I will be ordering me some more Cubics needles I love them....
Well off to find some pools..for more pooling head on over to Judy's.

PS. I even thought about taking a nice drive up to The Loopy Ewe this weekend, that is how crazy this is making me. In a good way..I think.

First attempt...no such luck..ended up taking it off the needles. Does look pretty all caked up though.
Second attempt..Haven't used the brown one yet..
Turned out to have great stripes though...
Great stripe but I don't even know where the picture went with the calendar and before caking
Latest attempt...still working on the ribbing..so maybe I will have some time tonight to get into the leg and some miracle will occur and after upteen attempts I will have a pool.

I haven't done a lot of knitting lately. I have either been appliqueing or reading...alot or reading. I started this sock over a month ago but finally decided to do a little bit here and there so I am making progress..just a little on the slow side. These are slouch socks and aren't as long as I thought but I added a couple of extra rows and figure they will work out for someone. But, I am trying something new so that is what counts right?
I can say that my sock yarn stash has grown but my productivity has not. We rearranged the family room for winter, I know weird huh, but we had to move the furniture around so that the fire place will spread its warmth more evenly. After doing that my recliner ended up kind of in the middle of nowhere and I had very little light. I ended up buying a new lamp so I hope that helps. Trying to do all of my stuff on the couch is not conducive to my well being. I don't sit on the couch properly so every part of my body will hurt after an extended period of time. Now, with the light I am back in business and I will be the warmest come winter because I am closest to the fire place.
For more needle projects head on over to Judy's.
I am off to sew and maybe some more knitting tonight..it is a cold one here today..so not looking forward to winter..a lovely 25 outside right now.

It has been a couple of weeks since I posted but I have been a little worker bee and actually finished a few things.
I finished my first pair of socks and I even had enough left over to make a small pair...thought they would fit my niece but they are too small...oh well....
I also finished my sunshine scarf, it still needs blocking but of course I haven't been able to get to that yet....
I then started another pair of socks...same basic pattern but I thought I would make them a lot shorter.
After taking this picture I ended up ripping them out and starting over. I think they were too loose so I am going to use a smaller size needle and see if that works. It is a DK weight and I was using the size 5 the directions called for but for some reason they seem really holey...I will try a size 4 I guess and see how that works.
I'm really loving the knitting and I have to force myself to work on my applique for Dear Jane first but bribing myself seems to work wonders.
For more needles head on over to Judy's.....have a wonderful weekend everyone.

On The Needles Friday 7/27/12
It has been a very busy week here and not a bunch of stuff done. It will be another busy week as well, we have company coming in tonight for a week so life as I know it will be crazy.
I finished my first sock at class on Monday...it really wasn't that difficult..of course I had to do the kitchener stitch threee times on my sock before I figured out what I was doing. Oh well, it was a learning experience.
I did cast on the second sock and as of last night I am ready to start the heel flap..hope I can remember what I did on the first sock so that I can finish the second one.
I also worked on a dishrag this week. You really cant tell from the picture but there is a butterfly in the pattern. I don't know if I life working with the cotton yarn. It has absolutely no give in it and by the time I was done with a couple of rows my hands were killing me. I even used metal needles. Don't know if I will be making many more of these even though they are easy and should be quick.
I still have my scarf to do as well. I haven't worked on that since starting the socks. I'm getting almost as bad with my knitting ufo's as I am with my quilting ones, and I haven't even been doing it very long. I am not even going to mention the 3 crocheted ones I have..nope not at all.
On a side note I spent an hour trying to teach my mom to cast on and to knit...lets just say I have not laughed so hard in a long time. It was fun though....well I am off to work then home to finish cleaning house before company arrives late tonight.

On the Needles Friday 7/13/12
I actually have something new on the needles this week. For my birthday I treated my self to a sock knitting on DPN class. Of course I did forget that there would probably be homework so I have been working like mad to get what I need done by Monday. It is times like these I wish I was a speed knitter because doing the homework has me slacking on my Dear Jane blocks..oh well....
The class has us making these with a worsted weight yarn for ease of learning and speed. I can say thank goodness because I don't know if I would be able to get the cuff (which I did at 1 inch) and the leg done before class if I used sock yarn. I have a little over 7 inches done and I have to get to 9 inchs and then do the heel flap. I was hoping to get the other one started so that I could work on them as a "complete each section together" type thing but my time is short so maybe if I can get this one done to the stop point I can start the other one. Wish me luck.
By the way does it get any "easier" working with these needles. I am getting into a routine so to speak but sometimes I still feel like there is a octopus in my hands. And let me tell you these needles are a little bit sharper than my Addy's cuz my fingers are tender. I sure have been trying not to use my fingertips for sure.
