QOV - Big Blocks

I made a bunch of blocks, well 20, for Alycia's QOV drive. I really wanted to get more done but I didn't get around to it.  I always have too many things to do and to much procrastination going on.

I can't wait to see what she does with all of these blocks. There really is 20 there I just forgot to take a picture with them all spread out, go figure.

I also have a quilt to send maybe I can get that in the mail this month.

Design Wall Monday 8/26/13

You would think with the start of school it would be calm.  NOT! My boys started school last Monday and it has been a whirlwind of a week, of course throw in football and soccer, and that will explain it all.

I also realized that I became a Freshman this year again as well, algebra and German have been my classes this past week.

I was able to get some sewing done, today. I didn't touch the machine at all last week.

I pulled fabric and started working on QOV blocks for Alycia. I am hoping to get the first batch done by tomorrow. I have finished 10, only 10 more to go.

I am off to do some errands. I get the tornado for sleepover tonight (aka. my niece) so there will be no sewing. Just knitting, I have to get that Camp Loopy project done this week. I only have 16 more rows and the bind off. I can do it....

Have a great week and for more Design Walls head on over to Judy's

Design Wall Monday - 5/21/12

I was busy yesterday...I really was..it just doesn't seem like I accomplished very much.

I did make a temporary design wall for my Sylvia's... I really did not want to move my DJ that would be a really big hassle.

I finished a couple more blocks for Jane, these are kind of a pain. I appliqued  two blocks so they are done. I even hand pieced the center for one..I hope it looks better after ironing than it does now because I really don't want to have to re-do it. I have one more to applique then I am done for the June blocks.

I finished a couple blocks for Sylvia's..I have 2 to applique and a couple difficult blocks coming up soon. I say difficult because I hate partial seams and Y- seams.  I can not seem to find a simple way to do these and I get frustrated. I guess I will just start hand piecing those sections because it is easier that way for me for some reason.

I only work every other day this week and I get a 4 day weekend so hopefully I will be able to get a lot done this week.  Even though we have some major yardwork to do this Saturday..yuck.

I hope to finish this block this afternoon.  More set in seams..yuck.

My temporary DW for Sylvia's.

My next QOV.

Close up..I have had this top waiting to be quilted for at least 2 years.  Yep..I'm kind of slow.

Maybe some progress will be made this week.

For more DW head on over to Judy's.

Hope you have a wonderful week.

Stash Report 5/13/12 - A Finish Too

Hoping everyone a Happy Mother's Day...mine will be spent sewing. I sent hubsters off this morning to the airport for the week, he will be in VA for work.  So it will be a little busier week for me since I will be both mom and dad..oh well nothing new on that front..just haven't had to do it for awhile.

Well I finally have a finish..it took me awhile but it is done.  This is my QOV #3...

I even labeled it....It is kind of hard so see since I already washed it but.  I used a CD for labels that I have.  I ran a fabric sheet through the printer then I used colored pencils to color it in then my fabric pen to write, heat set it and slapped the puppy on and off to the washer it went.   I was glad that it didn't really fade. I used two color catchers as well...they came out a little red but not too bad considering I don't pre-wash my fabric.

I am hoping to get another QOV on the frame today and get working on some of my SBS or DJ blocks although honestly I would really rather work on something fun and totally for me today...hmm since it is Mother's Day I might just do that.

Since most of my shows are over maybe I can spend some more time in the studio....yeah right.

I ended up using 4.5 yards for the backing and .5 yards for the binding so my numbers this week have changed...one of these days I will be on the good .....but nothing came in this week so that is a plus in my book.

Used this Week: 24.84 yards
Used year to Date: 98.79 yards
Added this Week: 0
yards
Added Year to Date: 121.34 yards
Net Used for 2012: -22.55 yards

Head on over to Judy's for more stash reports.

Quilts of Valor Progress

I am making progress on my QOV challenge of the year.  I have 2 tops completely done and ready to mail, 2 tops ready to quilt and 2 cut out ready to sew.  Now I just hope I can get the hang of my BettyLou (midarm) so that I can get them totally done.

I have been collecting red, white, and blue fabrics.  Right here is 42 different ones..perfect for home made jelly rolls.

Some fq's and yardage that will be used as well.

Three Jelly Rolls cut up....still didn't put a big dent in the piles either.

With my first jelly roll I decided to do my own little Jelly roll race.  No..I didn't time myself I know it took my a while but I had to keep getting up since my butt was getting sore.  I can tell you that the first two rows were the most difficult...they seemed to take forever and then it was...wow...I'm done.

The top done or so I thought...after further pondering I decided to add two borders.

I was having a hard time deciding what color to put as the inside border.  I decided on a goldish yellow. If I would have thought about it more I would have made it 1.5 or 2 inches instead of the 2.5 I used.  It is a little bit more yellow than I thought.

I then added a 4.5 inch border and called it good. It only took me the afternoon to get it done since I did the cutting yesterday.  I am sure I would have had it done quicker if I wouldn't have kept stopping to do other things.

I think with the other jelly roll I cut out I will do another one of these.  They aren't difficult and with all of my upcoming commitments it will be nice to do.  I only have 8 more to go before the end of the year.

This is the quilt that is on Betty Lou so hopefully I can report a completed top, well except for the binding of course by next week.  Wish me luck.

Michelle

PS...The best part is that all of the fabric including the backing and batting came out of my stash...yeppers this was all already in the studio. Maybe my numbers will start looking good here soon.

Design Wall Monday 3/5/12

I finished up my QOV3 and now have to put everything aside to work on more "have to dos". I have a few extra days off this week so maybe I can get some things done, especially since next week I work a full week.

Picture didn't turn out to well but it is done. Bought the backing fabric so hopefully sometime this month I can get this one and the other QOV I have quilted.

My plan for this week is to get my charm school for March done and box step top done (black and yellow blocks). I also have DJ blocks for April to do and need to start on Sylvia's Bridal Sampler.
I also need to start a wall hanging my mom asked for...I think my list is getting longer and longer.

Better go get busy...I have sewing to do and red beans and rice to make before our employee meeting tonight.

Design Wall Monday 2/27/12

I didn't make a whole lot progress last week.  The only thing I worked on was my knitted project and my Dear Jane blocks.

Yesterday I was finally able to spend some time in the sewing room and some progress was made.

These are still my leaders and enders between my QOV3 project. I was able to get 6 more blocks done.

These are the frist 4 rows of my QOV3.  It is turning out a little bit busier than I thought but I think it will be ok.

A closer look. These were all strips from my scrap bin.  I don't think it will be big enough once it is all sewn together but I figure I can just add a border.

I also started a new knitting project. It will be a baby blanket.  No one I know needs one but it will be good practice. It is still very simple knitting but I actually will have a small pattern to follow. Still getting used to working with circular needles as well.

For more design wall updates head on over to Judy's.

I am off to work this afternoon but I am off tomorrow. I hope to get the top finished tomorrow then to get it ready to quilt.  I have another QOV ready to quilt as well.  If I can get both of those done soon I will be 1/3 of the way to meeting my goal for the year.

Design Wall Monday 2/20/12

I was busy working on two projects but had to set them aside so that I could get those DJ blocks done.  I spent all day yesterday on them and I still have one left to sew and 3 left to applique so at least there was progress there. I work today but hopefully can spend tomorrow on my "want to do" projects.

I have been using the yellow and black as a leader and ender between my QOV 3 project.  So maybe I will actually have them both finished at the same time, that would really be nice.

This is my Box Step.  I cut this one out a while back and figured I need to get it done.  It doesn't have a particular place to go so that is kind of nice.

This is my QOV3...these were the strips I was cutting up here. I am hoping to get this one done in the by next weekend but around here who knows.  Doing 60 of these units took up a little more time than I thought.  I originally started making bonus HST's and that quickly lost its luster.  I figure I will just save all of those triangles for some string or pineapple blocks down the road.

Stash Report Week 7 and 8 - 2/19/2012

I was out of town last week during stash reporting so this week I will combine the two weeks. I didn't get as much done as I wanted but I can count the two QOV that I finished, you can see those here. I also completely finished my It's a Hoot. I also am going to include the yardage for Happily Every After..I ended up taking just the top into work and not quilting it and it could be a year or more before I get it back.

I am hoping to get some more work done on another QOV I am working on and a top I cut quit a few months ago which is black and yellow. I have been using this as a leader and ender between my Picnic QOV...I have a feeling though that these will both have to take a back seat this week since I still have 8 DJ blocks to finish in the next two weeks.

I did add a little bit of fabric to my stash...while up in Denver we went to Harriet's Treadle Arts and picked up a dandy little pack of fabric...these are all 1/8 yd cuts.

I also picked up a jelly roll and a couple of charm packs..they are in the more modern color range and I am thinking of using these in my future Farmer's Wife quilt.  I was at a LQS this week as well and they had their Civil War fabrics 35% off so I picked up the backing to my Civil War Chronicles quilt as well (it was just too good to pass up).

Used this Week: 15.65 yards
Used year to Date: 48.825  yards
Added this Week: 15.25 yards

Added Year to Date: 42.375 yards
Net Used for 2012: 6.45 yards

Maybe one of these days I will get my numbers to look really good. For other stash reports head on over to Patchwork Times.

QOV 1 and 2

I finished my first two QOV for the challenge Judy is holding over at Patchwork Times...you can read about it here.

I had to finish up the labels and make the pillowcases but now these babies are ready to be packed up and sent on their merry way.

Pillowcase 1

Pillowcase 2

Layer Cake QOV Purple

Layer Cake QOV Yellow

All finished and ready to go - I just finished putting the labels on them.

I hope these bring lots of comfort to someone.

Another flimsie

I started this top sometime in Sept. or Oct last year. It was put on the back burner over the holidays.  I only had the rows left to put together.  So that was my major accomplishment this week. This will be our Strip Club at the store in April, so luckily I have some time to figure out how I want to quilt it.

I also pulled all of my 2 1/2 strips from a swap last year and sorted and cut them for my next QOV.  I was planning on working on that a little bit this week but with the hubby gone it was kinda crazy.  I ended up spending the nights working on a crochet project and trying to finish my first knitting project.

I ended up using all precut strips out of my drawers except for the WOW.  I had to cut into some yardage. I probably ended up using about 1/3 of a yard but it is all cut and ready to be worked on as leaders and enders between my Dear Jane blocks.

I won't get any sewing done this weekend since it is the Anniversary on Saturday.  I will be gone all weekend so I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Stash Report Week 6 - 2/5/2012

I had some good numbers this week, but alas I am still bringing more in....oh well.

I bought some backing for my Orca Bay. I didn't want to piece it since there are so many seams on the front. It goes to the long armer tomorrow.

I bought 10 yards of background for a new project.  I am going to be teaching Sylvia's Bridal Sampler in the fall and I actually want to have this one done before hand. So between my other projects and Dear Jane this will be another long term project.  I figure these blocks will seem huge since they are 6" compared to DJ 4.5".

I also bought a charm pack in some brights,  this will hopefully be used in my future Farmers Wife.

I also included my numbers in this weeks stash report for last months BOM that I picked up.  Will I ever get those BOM done and caught up.  Who knows.  One can only hope.

I did get some projects done so that is good. I will show those at a later date.

I finished two pillowcase for my 2 QOV quilts. I only need to add labels and they can be mailed out...yay...I only have 10 more to make before the end of the year.  Not bad for a busy week.

So here are my numbers for the week.

Used this Week: 21.25 yards
Used year to Date: 33.175  yards
Added this Week: 23.125 yards

Added Year to Date: 27.125 yards
Net Used for 2012: 6.05  yards

My two QOV are the same, one is in yellow (shown below) and the other is in purple.  I know they are a little bit girly but I think they will still serve a purpose.

For more stash reports head on over to Patchwork Times.

Off to do more sewing now before Super Bowl.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

QOV challenge

I did it. I accepted Judy's challenge. I am going to make 12 QOV quilts in a year...not just tops but complete quilts...done....done..quilts.....

Image Detail

You can find more information here., and more information about QOV at Alycia's

Am I crazy? Probably, but hey what the heck.  I figure sleep is not needed and a clean house is overrated.

I figure I will give my self the rest of this month to get everything organized here, which in itself contains a long list. I have kits to cut, DJ to teach and actually do, and I won't even go into how many other things are on my agenda.

The good thing about this is that the cause is so worthy.  As I am found of saying I am a Marine Corp veteran, Air Force Wife, and Navy mom, the military is in our blood. The soldiers no matter what the branch or how people  view the "politics" they are still proudly serving our country to make it a better place for those that will come after us.

I'm now off to work on some DJ blocks that need to be appliqued and to ponder what quilts I would like to make or even finish.

Have a wonderful evening everyone.
