Stash Report Week 6 - 2/5/2012

I had some good numbers this week, but alas I am still bringing more in....oh well.

I bought some backing for my Orca Bay. I didn't want to piece it since there are so many seams on the front. It goes to the long armer tomorrow.

I bought 10 yards of background for a new project.  I am going to be teaching Sylvia's Bridal Sampler in the fall and I actually want to have this one done before hand. So between my other projects and Dear Jane this will be another long term project.  I figure these blocks will seem huge since they are 6" compared to DJ 4.5".

I also bought a charm pack in some brights,  this will hopefully be used in my future Farmers Wife.

I also included my numbers in this weeks stash report for last months BOM that I picked up.  Will I ever get those BOM done and caught up.  Who knows.  One can only hope.

I did get some projects done so that is good. I will show those at a later date.

I finished two pillowcase for my 2 QOV quilts. I only need to add labels and they can be mailed out...yay...I only have 10 more to make before the end of the year.  Not bad for a busy week.

So here are my numbers for the week.

Used this Week: 21.25 yards
Used year to Date: 33.175  yards
Added this Week: 23.125 yards
Added Year to Date: 27.125 yards
Net Used for 2012: 6.05  yards

My two QOV are the same, one is in yellow (shown below) and the other is in purple.  I know they are a little bit girly but I think they will still serve a purpose.

Design Wall Monday 1/30/2012

I actually made some progress this week. I finished my Orca Bay, Bonnie Hunters mystery...I am so glad it is done and I absolutely love it.

I think I am going to send this one to a long armer...there are so many seams and it is so heavy and most importantly I want it done. Since I still haven't taken the time to learn how to use my mid-arm..I do have to fix that issue soon.

I also decided that I need to take this week and make it a clean up week.  My sewing room looks like a bomb hit it.  I am so tired of all the kit stuff and extra crap I have piled around. So this will be my week to organize and get ready for everything I want to do.

I received my schedule for Feb. from work and after this week I actually get quit a few days off. I work Mon - Thur so I figure I can spend every afternoon getting everything cleaned up and by the time my days off come  (which is a 3 day weekend yay) I will be ready to get some things done.

My first goal after clean up week is of course Dear Jane (agghh) and then I have some QOV to get done.  I have one ready to quilt and I have many ideas floating around in my head.

Design Wall Monday 4 - 1/23/12

I still have DJ up on my design wall. Will it ever come down? Who knows.

I didn't get a lot finished this last week. I was busy cutting kits (60 of them) and working.

I did spend sometime on Orca Bay...slow but steady for sure.

I was hoping to work on this some more but of course I have to set it aside to work on other priotities.  I have 4 (I think) more DJ blocks to finish by next Wed. I also wanted to work on Judy's QOV quilt a long, I guess I will just have to see what I can get done in the next couple of days.  I work this morning but will have the rest of today and all day tomorrow to sew.  With hubby gone I may stay up in the studio longer.

Design Wall Monday 3

I of course still have DJ on the wall so my design wall these days is wherever I can put it, lap, table, floor, cutting table..you name it.

I spent the last two days working on my Orca Bay mystery from Bonnie Hunter.  I was really hoping with the long weekend I had with no work I would be able to get it done.  No such luck.  I spent two days just doing the red string blocks, and for the past three weeks I have been doing the "wings" section (I think it is the outside border) as leaders and enders.  Good news is I can start putting some blocks together though.  I am hoping to get to that later today.

My red strings. I can say by the time I was done with these blocks. I had very little strings left.  I actually had to duplicate more than I wanted and also dig into the 1 1/2' bucket.

I do love the way they look but I can say I am strung out for the time being.

I had to stop working on Orca Bay anyway because I remembered I have another charm school sample due soon...I like to have it ready for display as soon as the previous months class is done.  I have had the project for awhile but I have had other things to do.

After cleaning up my mess, well straightening up a little bit anyway I set out to work on it.  I love the pattern and I love the way it looks when it is done, but I can honestly say it is a little time consuming and has a lot of wasted fabric.  I at least can but them in my bucket of crumbs and use them another day.

The easiest part...laying the blocks out in a pleasing way.

Sewing the borders on---still easy.

Lining up the template on the seams and then cutting out.  Time consuming and a little painful.  You have to be really careful how far out you cut since you have to use the second row for the next set and the next row..etc. etc.  I cut it close a couple of times.

How the blocks look as you cut them..You really have to pay attention to the order you cut them so the pinwheels come out correctly, rotate block to the right and then sew the rows together.

How it looks before everything is sewn together.  I did get the rows sewn together but that is it.  Hopefully I will have it finished before this evening.

Below is the piles of scraps left over.  I used a really small template and I know that their are larger ones.  I can't imagine the amount of waste that accumulates with those.  I thought this was a lot especially since you cant really cut them up into uniform pieces ...so to the crumb box they go.

I ended up getting it sewn, cut up, and almost re sewn together yesterday. I only have to sew the rows together but I had to stop because my left shoulder was killing me. I am hoping to get the rows sewn, basted and quilted today. I figure I will hand sew the binding on this week or finish it up while teaching class on Friday.

I only have today left to play on my things then it is back to "work". I have a wool class tomorrow, then I have to work for 6 days straight before another day off. I probably won't get much done during that time but I am hoping to finish some more DJ blocks.
