Design Wall Monday 10/1/2012

I have a finish..finally...yeah!!!!! So this is the only thing on/off my design wall other than that lovely Dear Jane and the lovely Sylvia.

I spent all day yesterday finishing this puppy up.  I had to sew the buttons on, fix the bees (which I still don't like to much), make the bees path, and machine sew the binding down (which I am still not that great at).  But it is done done done.

I only work 3 days this week plus a class (yeppers that dreaded Dear Jane) so I had planned on getting a lot done...but then I remembered...

My parents are out of town so I am the designated back up to get older niece to school and watch the younger niece.  So my plans are now to try to get something small done period.  My little niece is only 2 and a sweetie pie...I love having her and spending time with her but boy oh boy is she a busy little bee.  Oh well...I only 2 days the following two weeks and one class so I will have plenty of time them..I hope.

Have a great day everyone I am off to work.

For more design walls head on over to Judy's...I just love looking at what everyone is working on.  It seems like everyone gets more done than me.

Making Progress

Since I had some time off from work I have been really busy.  Well, I am busy either way but more quilty stuff was done.

I finished my last shop sample (for awhile anyway), another simple Halloween panel magic.  They go together so quickly. I plan on making some more in my future for some charity quilts, just enlarging the borders.

I also finished my Fat Quarter Shop bom for month 3, so far I have kept up hopefully that will continue.

So in the last two weeks I have finished, one block, 2 wall hangings, and my Birds Eye View.  That will probably be the only variety seen until the end of the year.

You will probably be bored with my blog since the only thing on my agenda for the rest of the year is Dear Jane, and Sylvia's Bridal Sampler, along with quilting all of my Waldo Canyon Quilts.

My goal is to have these all done by Dec. 31st so that I can start out the new year with a fresh slate.  I don't think it will be too daunting..yeah right...I have at least 90 blocks left of DJ, about 120 blocks left of Sylvia's and about 50 Waldo Canyon Quilts...no my life won't be boring but these blocks might drive me over the edge by the time I am done.  Oh yeah I also have another class starting in January but that one may be a fun one..we are doing a year of Schnibbles so that might just be the break I need.

I am off to do another orientation for school, one more today and a short one tomorrow.  The kiddos go back to school on Monday so hopefully soon I will have a routine to follow again.  Well, after my friend is here for two weeks that is...lots of shop hopping will be had I am sure.

Have a wonderful day.

Stash Report Week 21 - 5/20/2012

Well I did get a finish this week. It is not a lot of fabric but it was used none the less.

I finished Raspberry Swirl for Jo's club and it used a total of 2.5. I did use most of my stash but bought backing fabric for it and then Vintage Modern precuts came in so I had to scoop up a couple of those. So with the jelly roll and 2 charm packs I ended up bringing in 6.25. Still one step forward and ten back with me but oh well.

I also finished most of my DJ blocks for this month. I still have 3 to do one to hand piece and 2 to applique so hopefully I can finish those this week. I am now going to ..hopefully...load a quilt on the frame and then get busy working on Sylvia's.

Raspberry Swirl

Vintage Modern..waiting for the yardage so I can figure out what I want to do with them.

Dear Jane for June...only 3 more to go.

Used this Week: 2.5 yards
Used year to Date: 101.29  yards
Added this Week: 6.25
yards
Added Year to Date: 127.59 yards
Net Used for 2012: -26.3 yards

Maybe I can actually get some stuff done this week and my numbers will improve.  I have a ton to quilt..I really should take the time to count how many but that may be a little bit scary. I also still have Orca Bay that needs the binding done as well.

Off to sew. I have a few more peaceful moments by myself...the clan went to the movies to see Battleship.

Have a great day.

Raspberry Swirl is Done

I did it! I have a finished quilt top. I even finished the binding and have it sewn down.  I didn't get a whole lot else done but I beat the deadline.  I finished it last night so it is already for class tomorrow. I will then bring it home wash and dry it and hang it up on my Jo's wall.

Now granted it wasn't a big quilt but hey these days anything is better than nothing. I spent 4 hours yesterday on two blocks for DJ and didn't get either of them finished. I was at the point that I needed to just step away before everything was flying out of the window. So hopefully by Sunday I will be ready to tackle them again. I did finish the applique last night on two other DJ so I am not too far behind yet. I still have until the first Wed. of the month.

It really feels nice to get something completely done and it really felt nice to work on something different for a change. Now off to celebrate my middles one's 13th birthday, hubby coming home and all of the fun weekend stuff...like cleaning, laundry etc.  I hope Sunday will be a day to sew...

Have a stitchin' fun weekend everyone.

Stash Report 5/13/12 - A Finish Too

Hoping everyone a Happy Mother's Day...mine will be spent sewing. I sent hubsters off this morning to the airport for the week, he will be in VA for work.  So it will be a little busier week for me since I will be both mom and dad..oh well nothing new on that front..just haven't had to do it for awhile.

Well I finally have a finish..it took me awhile but it is done.  This is my QOV #3...

I even labeled it....It is kind of hard so see since I already washed it but.  I used a CD for labels that I have.  I ran a fabric sheet through the printer then I used colored pencils to color it in then my fabric pen to write, heat set it and slapped the puppy on and off to the washer it went.   I was glad that it didn't really fade. I used two color catchers as well...they came out a little red but not too bad considering I don't pre-wash my fabric.

I am hoping to get another QOV on the frame today and get working on some of my SBS or DJ blocks although honestly I would really rather work on something fun and totally for me today...hmm since it is Mother's Day I might just do that.

Since most of my shows are over maybe I can spend some more time in the studio....yeah right.

I ended up using 4.5 yards for the backing and .5 yards for the binding so my numbers this week have changed...one of these days I will be on the good .....but nothing came in this week so that is a plus in my book.

Used this Week: 24.84 yards
Used year to Date: 98.79 yards
Added this Week: 0

Added Year to Date: 121.34 yards
Net Used for 2012: -22.55 yards

Head on over to Judy's for more stash reports.

Stash Report Week 7 and 8 - 2/19/2012

I was out of town last week during stash reporting so this week I will combine the two weeks. I didn't get as much done as I wanted but I can count the two QOV that I finished, you can see those here. I also completely finished my It's a Hoot. I also am going to include the yardage for Happily Every After..I ended up taking just the top into work and not quilting it and it could be a year or more before I get it back.

I am hoping to get some more work done on another QOV I am working on and a top I cut quit a few months ago which is black and yellow. I have been using this as a leader and ender between my Picnic QOV...I have a feeling though that these will both have to take a back seat this week since I still have 8 DJ blocks to finish in the next two weeks.

I did add a little bit of fabric to my stash...while up in Denver we went to Harriet's Treadle Arts and picked up a dandy little pack of fabric...these are all 1/8 yd cuts.

I also picked up a jelly roll and a couple of charm packs..they are in the more modern color range and I am thinking of using these in my future Farmer's Wife quilt.  I was at a LQS this week as well and they had their Civil War fabrics 35% off so I picked up the backing to my Civil War Chronicles quilt as well (it was just too good to pass up).

Used this Week: 15.65 yards
Used year to Date: 48.825  yards
Added this Week: 15.25 yards

Added Year to Date: 42.375 yards
Net Used for 2012: 6.45 yards

Maybe one of these days I will get my numbers to look really good. For other stash reports head on over to Patchwork Times.

It's A Hoot (a finish and a start)

It's A Hoot is finished.  My first hand embroidery is finally done. I finished the block itself last week sometime. Then Friday it was a snow day so I stayed inside and finished the little top. I have been working on the binding for a couple of days now. I am a very slow binder...my thumbs can only handle a very little bit at a time so it is like molasses in winter ...very slow..but I do get them done.

If I would of thought about it I may not have used that lime green but I was intent on using stash only and that is what I had.  So it is done and it even has a sleeve sewn on the back.  When I get around to it I will actually order one of those small table top hangers for this one and then I can rotate them out with some others I have plans to make in the future.

So another finish on my list ...it may be small but it is a finish none the less.

Remember this....

Right out of the hoop..no ironing yet....

Here it is completed.  It even has a hanging sleeve.  I just remembered I still need to get some buttons for the inside of the flowers but they are over at my moms house, maybe this weekend I can go over and find something that will work.

It's really sad that it took me over 2 weeks to bind this little thing.  I just can't do much binding at a time because it really hurts my thumbs.  Oh well it is done.

I now have another one ready to go...how long will it take to finish who knows...

I am off this weekend and I hope to get alot done.  I do have to clean the house and get laundry done and yeah by them groceries....the kids for some reason think we need cereal and milk....go figure.

Talk about procrastination..I have to spend some time this week finishing up my DJ blocks, class is on the 7th and I only have 2 done....aaggghhh

Sew long for now,

Michelle

Stash Report Week 6 - 2/5/2012

I had some good numbers this week, but alas I am still bringing more in....oh well.

I bought some backing for my Orca Bay. I didn't want to piece it since there are so many seams on the front. It goes to the long armer tomorrow.

I bought 10 yards of background for a new project.  I am going to be teaching Sylvia's Bridal Sampler in the fall and I actually want to have this one done before hand. So between my other projects and Dear Jane this will be another long term project.  I figure these blocks will seem huge since they are 6" compared to DJ 4.5".

I also bought a charm pack in some brights,  this will hopefully be used in my future Farmers Wife.

I also included my numbers in this weeks stash report for last months BOM that I picked up.  Will I ever get those BOM done and caught up.  Who knows.  One can only hope.

I did get some projects done so that is good. I will show those at a later date.

I finished two pillowcase for my 2 QOV quilts. I only need to add labels and they can be mailed out...yay...I only have 10 more to make before the end of the year.  Not bad for a busy week.

So here are my numbers for the week.

Used this Week: 21.25 yards
Used year to Date: 33.175  yards
Added this Week: 23.125 yards

Added Year to Date: 27.125 yards
Net Used for 2012: 6.05  yards

My two QOV are the same, one is in yellow (shown below) and the other is in purple.  I know they are a little bit girly but I think they will still serve a purpose.

For more stash reports head on over to Patchwork Times.

Off to do more sewing now before Super Bowl.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Small Finish

I just finished putting the binding on my Primitive Gatherings charm school quilt.  It's small but still finished.  I really enjoyed putting this one together, after I realized the cutting wasn't that bad.  I have visions of making many more of these.  It is a good little gift and doesn't take much fabric at all.

I don't think I will get much else done this week. I have a long shift today, well longer than what I am used to. I also have inventory tomorrow which will mess my week up since I am not used to working Sundays.  My husband leaves for a week which will throw my schedule off even more.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Stash Report Week 3

I did some sewing this week but not as much as I wanted, what's new right? I did get a finish which you can see here. So I guess this week wasn't a total loss. I did buy fabric for a backing which will be for a shop sample but I decided to do some me sewing. I also worked on some DJ blocks for next months class. I think I worked on 5 and 3 of those need applique. I also worked on my Owl embroidery. I only have a little bit of that left then I can square it up and put the borders on that although I have to find some fabric for that first.

I ended up spending sometime cutting up some kits for work.... I have over 82 bolts of fabric here and I am so ready to get them out of the studio and then maybe I can clean it up a little bit since it looked like a bomb went off in there.

So here are my numbers for the week.

Used this Week: 5.5 yards
Used year to Date: 10.125 yards

Added this Week: 3.5 yards
Added Year to Date: 3.5 yards
Net Used for 2012: 6.625 yards

Still on the good side which is good, of course it is only 3 weeks into the year...

For other Stash Reports head over Judy at Patchwork Times.

I am off to sew more on my Orca Bay.....one of these days I will get it done.

Valentine Trio

I have my first completion for the year done.  Not too bad for the second week of January.  If only I could stay on this pace of finishing every couple of weeks.  I guess it may be a goal, a lofty goal none the less.

This was a simple project to do.  I made it to put in the shop to try and push some of the turnovers we have. I also love decorating for Valentines Day...why I don't know but it seems to be the holiday that I have the most stuff done....go figure.

These were made using a Moda Bake Shop Recipe, which can be found here, although she used Christmas fabric instead.  I think this would make a cute little gift for a girl. I don't have any of those so who knows what I will do with it when I get it back.

I sped through the table topper to get it finished.  The top was done and I basted it, quilted it and bound it (temporaily anyway) in less than an hour and a half.  Granted it was just simple in the ditch quilting but I didn't think that was too bad for a days work.

Good news is that I will have something to add to my stash report on Sunday....yeah....one project down a few thousands more to go.

Enjoy your day everyone,

Michelle

Stash Report Week 1 & 2, 2012

I am a little behind in starting the new year so I am reporting last weeks as well as this weeks.

Week 1 - Simple, since I didn't get anything of importance done.

Used this Week: 0 yards
Used year to Date: 0 yards

Added this Week: 0 yards
Added Year to Date: 0 yards
Net Used for 2012: 0 yards

Week 2 - I actually made some progress.  I finished a wall hanging for charm school, it's not real big but it still counts.

Used this Week: 1.875 yards
Used year to Date: 1.875 yards

Added this Week: 0 yards
Added Year to Date: 0 yards
Net Used for 2012: 1.875 yards

The top two photos are for our charm school at High Country Quilts where I work. We do a class every month using one pack of charms.  I ended up getting scheduled for Dec, Jan and Feb. So I at least will have a few finishes early this year.

The following photos are from Decembers class. It was a last minute project since we forgot about the class. I started it Saturday night and finished the same night, ready to take to work that Monday.  This pattern is from GE Designs and it a quilt as you go, so it was EZ PZ to finish.

If I wouldn't have hurt my back and football wasn't on yesterday I would have had another trio of projects done.  I will be working on them this evening since I have to have them for work tomorrow.  At least I know I will have some more yardage to report next week.

I hope everyone had a quilty day.
