A Little Bit Messy

A couple of weeks ago I decided I just needed a break from the class sewing and started to play around a little bit.

I pulled out my scrap buckets and dove in.

I am working on Bonnie Hunter's Pineapple quilt, plus about 10 others of hers at the same time. I decided to narrow it down and just work on a few things at once until those string pieces and paper pieces are done and then I will move on to the next one.

I love these pineapple but it seems to take forever to finish one and I for some reason have to totally concentrate so I can remember what color value goes where. I have 3 done I think. Only a couple hundred to go.

It is a bit messy and it seems to grow and you don't seem to make a dent with scraps and the pieces just multiply and the pile gets larger, but it is a great stress reliever. It is a nice change since there is no thinking involved.

Hopefully I can get back to this soon. I  really only have one more quilt to finish for class and then just 4 blocks a month so I should have more time...I hope.

Sometimes

Sometimes you just have to take a break. A break from the have-to quilts and spend sometime on the I want to things. Ironically for me at one time the have-to projects were the I want to projects, go figure.

I was up early this morning and had a shower, quick trip to Wal-Mart, bathroom clean and the hallway and living room carpets steam cleaned by 1000. What is a girl to do when the boys are at Men's Fellowship for the morning? Sew of course...

I went down to the sewing room and decided I was going to sew on something that did not have to do with y-seams (hexagons), or block of the months (Sylvia's or Loyal Union Sampler).

I decided to sew on my Mad City Mama that I have been working on as leaders and enders. So that is what I am doing.

Of course, that is after I remove the Zeus from my 1.5 inch string bucket. I asked him why he was in there but or course no response just a raised eyebrow. Boys I tell ya.

It really isn't as wonky as it looks.

Sub-cut into 5.5 inch sections. I only need 30 more.

And of course the leaders and enders. I wasn't going to do them but they kept calling my name. So the thimbles will be piling up. I have 34 now. Who knows how many I will need.

I am off to rotate another load of laundry then back to sewing before the "have-tos" need to be done.

Bow Tie Blocks

I follow Bonnie over at Quiltville and last year she put out a bow tie challenge, you can find more here. I had told myself I wasn't going to join but as usual I caved in.  I have been working on them pretty much since the beginning and only using them as leaders and enders. I have stopped a couple of times to work on something else but...I have found that these little wonders are just too addicting to put aside for long.

Sunday before starting on the DJ project I took some time to cut some more pieces. I finished up a chunk of my cheddar and then cut 45 more blocks. I had about 20 left so now I have another small stash to keep me going for awhile. I just love these little rascals.

I don't know how many I have nor how many I will need. I just keep going.  I pile them in a bucket and then every so often I stop and bundle them into groups of 10. I wonder how many I will end up with by the time I tire of them?

Have a good day everyone.
