Design Wall Monday 8/12/13

Still chugging along. I did a couple more blocks yesterday before stopping watch my niece. I then went up and knitted and knitted and knitted.  I will get it done come hell or high water that's for sure.

I have 16 blocks of my Short Story Schnibble's done. I am hoping between today and tomorrow to finish them up and then I can get the top done.
Still need to come up with a name for this one. Pink lemonade, Tequila sunrise. Who knows.

I am off most of this week but have chauffeur duty.  Soccer tryouts every night and football practice every night. It is back to cooking dinner and piling in the fridge until they come home and ravage it. I always feel weird cooking dinner at home alone then shoving it in the fridge but what else can you do.

I did get my next batch of Sylvia's blocks done too..still not liking those set in seams.

Churn Dash

54-40 or Fight

Bride's Bouquet

Glorified Nine Patch (applique style)

Farmers Daughter

Making progress slowly but surely. I have 64 out of 140 done and 2 of the applique blocks in progress. Good news is I am really not getting tired of this one yet. Unlike Dear Jane.

1/7th Done

It is that time of year again. School. I take to and from in the morning for soccer practice for my new freshman and this week football starts for the junior high kiddo. I also have dentists appointments, haircuts, orientations, school supplies and the list goes on.

But I have been able to knit and do some sewing. I am working on a total of 4 samples for the store.  Two with the new hexagon pre-cuts and my last two Schnibbles and also my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler.

This last Schnibble is going to take a little time. It is Short Story and I am using some batiks. I had cut everything last week and planned on starting then.  Yeah right.

Grab 2 of each size in each color.

Fold nice and pretty to find the center.

Sew together and press. Of course you press to the larger piece so that takes a little extra precaution.

Handy Dandy Companion Angle Ruler. Line up the 1 1/4 on the seam line, center the ruler in the middle of the top piece so your notches are even. Trim

Nice and pretty trimmed.

Layout the block and prepare to sew.

Found out the corners line up perfectly when the notches match up.

Press.

Trim down to 4 1/4 in square.

Repeat 48 more times.

I have seven done so I am 1/7th of the way done. I get about 4 blocks done in an hour so maybe I can get them done by the middle of next week.  I have to spend sometime getting caught up on Camp Loopy. I fell behind, imagine that.

Have a great day everyone.

A winter Schnibble

I really have been sewing a little bit. I have another sample top done for the store. I just have to quilt it.  Hopefully I can get that done next week.

Winter White Schnibbles using Snowman Gatherings

I am hoping to quilt it with circles radiating out.  I am thinking about using my circular foot on my Bernina.  Will have to see how that works out.

Off to knit.

Design Wall Monday

I have another finish. Who would have thought it. I finished my Sylvia's blocks for the month and decided to quilt a Schnibbles real quick. I even put a label on it.

I work more than usual this week so I don't know how much sewing I'll get done, besides, I have to finish Camp Loopy and I feel like I am behind.

One of the blocks I am working on for SBS is a Dresden plate. So far I don't like it, but I hope I can figure it out and it will get done without major issues.

Still trying to figure out what I want to work on next...sampler for next years class (maybe) or a couple more Schnibbles, or a UFO...hmmm decisions, decisions.

Design Wall Monday 3/11/13

I was busy this last week..well mostly Sunday.

I finished my Vista 1 top. I ended up not quilting it but it is now at the store hanging with the kits.

I also finished April's Schnibbles quilt for class...this was Decoy made with Love Letters fabric. I ended up just meandering the whole thing, but now I wish I would have done something different...oh well..

I then was able to finish piecing the top for May Schnibbles. Cindy Lou Who?.  It didn't come out exactly the way I had wanted it but it still works.  I didn't have enough of the colors I wanted to use in my charm packs but it is good.  Now, hopefully I can get this puppy quilted this week.

I hope to get some sewing done this week but there might not be much of that. Football for the boys starts tonight.  Which in turn means practice for one of them everyday but Sunday.  I usually don't have to worry about it since hubby is one of the coaches, but, Ryan (middle son) is playing this year and he is on a different team at a different field. So I am now the designated practice person for him, except on Monday's...yeah...hopefully I will get lots of knitting and hand sewing done in those 2 hours..or maybe just read who knows.

For more eye candy head on over to Judy's.

Off to knit a little before I work the late shift today...

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone.  I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Years Eve.  I didn't stay up too late since I have to work this morning.  Our big sale at work. At least it is a short day for me.

I have two completions for the New Year....wish I would be able to keep this pace for the year that is for sure.

I am teaching a new class, Year of Schnibbles. So I have to be ahead of the game.  I finished January a long, long time ago.

Full House - Jan

Plan C - February
I meandered all over with white thread. I was hoping you could see the quilting a little bit better. I had this top quilted in maybe 10 minutes.

Plan - C
Full picture or as full as I could get without hunting down a chair to stand on.

Doc - Close up. I was under a time constraint so this one was also meandered all over with a multi-gray thread. The charm pack is Quilting blocks.

Doc - March
Again I tried to get the complete picture.  One of these days maybe.

I did machine sew the binding down. I also added a sleeve and label to both of them. I just have to finish hand sewing those down and they are totally done done.

I have April Schnibbles top down as well but that one will have to wait awhile.

With my time and circumstances changing I have had to really work hard to get ahead.  Which in my case is really hard when I can barely keep up.

Dear Jane this month will only have 7 blocks. I guess it is not that bad since in the last 19 months I have never done less than the 10 required. I am hoping to get at least 7 done for the Feb meeting but that might be difficult.

I am lucky that I was ahead on Sylvia's Bridal Sampler so that one just needed the blocks picked out.  I am technically good to go until March.

So this week will be playing get ahead and all of my New Year wants for quilting and knitting will have to start March 1, but that is ok right...

Have a great day and hope to be back sooner rather than later.

I Have Been Busy

really....I have.  I just don't ever seem to have a lot to show for it. I finally finished my O's candy Little Bites so now I just have to quilt them both. Oh the someday list just keeps getting longer and longer.

I also took time to do something with a few blocks, uh more like what was supposed to be the whole quilt, that I had cut wrong and just sewed them together and put the other cut pieces into the scrap bin.  What it will be who knows. I will either put it in the back of some quilt or maybe make a small table topper for somebody or something.  The good news is that it is no longer taking up a spot on my sewing table. (Next time I will read the directions a little bit better)

I am now off to do some cutting of a new BOM for work, then to sew and maybe a few chores.

Have a great day everyone,

Michelle

Design Wall Monday 6/25/2012

I decided to make yesterday a fun day. I wanted to do something totally different and take a break from Dear Jane and Sylvia's. Do I have tons to do still? Yes...but a break is sometimes needed.

I decided to make a quick Schnibbles so I picked out Plan C.  I originally cut the fabric from another charm square but ended up cutting and sewing wrong...figures.... So..I went with Plan B for my Plan C pattern.

I ended up using a Laura Ashley charm pack.  I love the fabric. My only complain was that it didn't have a lot of different fabrics. Each charm pack had 3-4 of the same fabrics.

I put the first 4 rows on my ironing board because I did not want to move everything around. It was really hot and I had 2 fans blowing at top speed.  This was the safest place. These rows are not sewn together. I was about beat and didn't feel like doing anymore.

I went to lay out the last two rows and for some odd reason I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get them laid out like the pattern.  I decided it was just too hot and I would work on it again this afternoon when I get home from work.

I will have to hurry and get this little top done and get back to DJ and Sylvia's but it was a nice break while it lasted. I would love to say I will have plenty of time to sew in the next couple of weeks but I don't think that will happen. We have family coming into town for the weekend. Hopefully by next week I will be back on track.

Of course it has been hotter than pee waddlin pickles this last week...in the 100's for Colorado is just not normal and when you don't have A/C it isn't great either. Then there is the fires on the other side of town and it is just so awful. Hopefully they will start to get containment on them today.

Well I am off to get ready for work so for more design walls head on over to Judy's.

Have a pieceful day.
