Waldo Canyon Quilts Part 2

Here are some more pictures of the lovely quilts and quilt tops I have received so far. I am hoping to get some out and ready to go for the 28th of this month. There is a group of people from various guilds getting together to give these quilts to the victims of the fire.  I hope I have some time to crank out a few completed quilts from these flimsies I have received.

My photo taking skills do not do these tops and quilts justice that is for sure.

Again, thank everyone so very much.  I also want to thank everyone for the wonderful cards and thoughts as well.

Design Wall Monday 7/16/2012

My design wall this week is kind of a mish mash...it matches my life for sure.

I finished my block for this months Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery BOM..so far I am on track although it is only month 2.

I have also finished my Dear Jane blocks for July and completed the rows I could.  I can say that it is finally starting to look like a quilt to me. I see how much I have done and love it but at the same time I realize how much I have left to do. 

I also finished 2 blocks for August..well I have a small square to applique but its almost done.  I only have 8 more to do before the first.

By the time I get the next blocks done I should be able to add the E row and maybe the F I can't quit remember right now.

I also sorted and organized some more of my Waldo Canyon Quilts.  I think I may take the ones that are completed already to the get together on July 28th they are having to hand out quilts from the people in our area.  I really wish I could have them all quilted by then but I know that won't happen.  Right now I have over 25 to quilt and I need to figure backing out for most of them. I should only have a couple more busy days this week and then I hope to get back into a routine.  Well, until the 27th when we have more company coming for a week.  Oh my! does it ever slow down anymore...lol.

On the Needles Friday 7/13/12

I actually have something new on the needles this week. For my birthday I treated my self to a sock knitting on DPN class. Of course I did forget that there would probably be homework so I have been working like mad to get what I need done by Monday.  It is times like these I wish I was a speed knitter because doing the homework has me slacking on my Dear Jane blocks..oh well....

The class has us making these with a worsted weight yarn for ease of learning and speed.  I can say thank goodness because I don't know if I would be able to get the cuff (which I did at 1 inch) and the leg done before class if I used sock yarn.  I have a little over 7 inches done and I have to get to 9 inchs and then do the heel flap. I was hoping to get the other one  started so that I could work on them as a "complete each section together" type thing but my time is short so maybe if I can get this one done to the stop point I can start the other one. Wish me luck.

By the way does it get any "easier" working with these needles.  I am getting into a routine so to speak but sometimes I still feel like there is a octopus in my hands.  And let me tell you these needles are a little bit sharper than my Addy's cuz my fingers are tender.  I sure have been trying not to use my fingertips for sure.

Waldo Canyon Fire Quilts - Update

Sorry it has taken me so long to update but it has been crazy here this last week. My FIL and MIL were here for 4 days they left last Sunday. Then last Monday I had some family move in temporarily (not because of the fire but something else) so they will be here for at least another week maybe two. Then by the time they leave we have friends coming to visit for the last week of July first week of August.  So my house has turned into a revolving door. I have not sewn but 2 blocks in the last 2 weeks....

I ended up spending the last two days helping lay 6 tons of rock and we still have 10-15 more to go.  I was done at 2pm today and I have no energy to do anything.  I have a busy work week this week so hopefully by the end of the week I can start getting these puppies finished.

I have fallen in love with all of these tops and quilts.  I want to thank you so very much for the generosity shown.  Some of the pictures may be blurry..my 1 year old niece decided she wanted to help. I will show more pictures as the quilts/tops come in and as I finish them.

If I Only Had A Brain

That is how I felt this past weekend.  We had family come visit for the weekend and of course they wanted to see the scenery but with the fires we couldn't go to the places originally planned on.  So we went down to Canon City to the Royal Gorge.

Ok..now I am absolutely petrifed of heights.  Big time!!!! So we get there, and after paying the astronomically large amount to get in, everybody was ready to head on over the bridge.  I was perfectly content to sit on this side and wait...well my DMIL decided to wait with me.  Well, where my brain went I do not know but I didn't want her to not experience the walk across. So there I go.

I did NOT look down..I did NOT look up..I looked kind of a head of me.  Why?  Well they are rail road ties that are bolted to the wires but....they are not exactly board to board..there are a few minimal (hahaha) gaps and they are a little uneven and I sure as heck did not want to trip and fall since I was wearing flip flops...I know duh...the tennis shoes were in the car though...really helpful right?

So trying to keep my mind off of the walk across a suspension bridge that is 956 feet high and 1270 feet long  I started chanting and chanting with a little bit of hyperventilating..just keep walking, just keep walking..with a few prayers to the man upstairs..I made it across.  Yeah!!!

Well...you have to walk back across to get to the car...duh....I figured by this time I could just become part of the scenery and spend the rest of my days on this side of the bridge but no such luck.  My husband said I should take the little trolley bus back across but that would put my life in someone elses hands and that wasn't happening.

So I psyche myself up and off I go...don't touch me, don't talk to me....nothing...well....not a single song would pop into my head to take my mind of walking (looking like a duck I am sure so I wouldn't trip) except one....the Marine Corp Hymn...so here I go duck walking across the bridge, hands out in front of me  (why I don't know) and singing " From the Halls of Montezuma, to the Shores of Tripoli" not real quiet either.

I get half way across...and it starts getting really windy...I start freaking out and stop...can't go forward, can't go back and sure as heck can't stay there...I yell for my husband...he runs back (which of course didn't make me happy--the running part)....I grab his arm like my life depends on it..which it does...and it is so hot and sun screeny that holding on is not really great, but it is working... I figure in a month or two all of the nail marks and bruises will be gone from his arm...I yell at the kids to get away from the side and to get off the stinking bridge.....up ahead there are teenagers jumping up and down..now why you would do this on a bridge up in the middle of no where is totally beyond me anyway..luckily their mother saw that I was losing it rather quickly and made them stop - at least until I passed. Needless to say I did make it across the bridge and with few tears. 

I then watched my husband and middle son zip line off the canyon.  Yes, I did make sure the life insurance policies were up to date first.  I love the fact that they were not afraid but it helped me not one bit.

Moral of the story...my husband is my hero (although his idea of almost there and mine are vastly different) , conquering your fear of heights by doing something with heights does NOT conquer your fear of heights no matter what anyone says and finally if you want good pictures make sure to give the camera to someone who will actually use it.

Stash Report 7/1/2012

I decided that with how many projects I am doing that don't really count yardage yet I would only post a stash report once a month.  This might change down the road but for now I think this is good.

My last report was 5/26..so this one is a little bit more than a month.

I did finish my Plan C Schnibble top so that can be counted out but that is about it...a heck of a lot came in...but what's new right.

So here are my numbers for the time frame



Used this Month: 6.925 yards
Used year to Date: 108.21  yards
Added this Month: 24.465 yards
Added Year to Date: 152.055 yards
Net Used for 2012: -43.85 yards

I am hoping to get more of this stuff out of here. Since I am working on Waldo Canyon quilts for Colorado and Utah (more information here at Julie's as well) my numbers should be going out of the red soon.
